Tucked into the middle of a block of 1800 era Victorian storefronts along Lakeport’s Main Street, the Gaslight has been cooking up one of Lake County’s best hamburgers for over 60 years.  Handmade everyday, their 1/3 lb USDA Choice patties are quickly delivered on brioche to your table under several delectable disguises. Local favorites are the Bacon Blue Burger ($15) & Jalapeno Burgers ($15). There is even a Boca Burger ($11) for the vegetarian crowd plus a gluten free bun option ($2). All are served with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and mayo.  Napkins abound and you will need them: it is one of the juiciest burgers you will ever put in your mouth.  And, don’t miss the fried pickle spears ($7) served with ample sides of ranch dipping sauce. Fries come in crispy shoestring with many upgrades; waffle sweet potato, seasoned curly and for the daredevil – chili cheese.  For those who love the world famous Triple IPA Pliny The Younger (clocking in at a healthy 10.25 ABV), you found your spot. Gaslight is the only purveyor in Lake County pouring this liquid gold (seasonally). With sixteen beers on tap and lots of local wine there is something for everyone.

Santana’s Cottage Cafe & Catering

In a cozy little cottage with vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams, Santana’s delivers 100% on its name.  Its giant breakfast menu is equalled only by its well rounded lunch menu and on that you will find several Harris Ranch angus chuck 1/3rd lb burgers. Our server, Halley, told us the Bacon Blue ($16) is a local favorite (noticing a theme here) and it came served on a soft grilled bun with a splash of garlic aioli butter. With the option of either a generous fresh garden salad (no extra charge) with a choice of a couple of  homemade dressings or fries, all burgers are topped with lettuce, red onion, tomatoes and pickles. The burgers are straightforward and delicious (Impossible Burgers are also available, but you might have to ask for it as our menu didn’t include it). Wash it all down with a large assortment of bottled beers or local wines or better yet a root beer float.

TSA PreCheck won’t get you anywhere here. Located at Lake County’s only airport, Lampson Field, you take a step back in time when you arrive at Reds. Grab a seat at the bar with its picture window backdrop and give yourself a bird’s eye view of the runway where private planes come and go and REACH’s Airbus H130 helicopter swirls in and out. Chef owner Jer and wife Nicole serve up an ever-changing menu with one constant: (It’s Really Not) The End of the World Burger ($21). A 1/3 lb angus beef patty smothered with American cheese stands regal with bacon, crispy onion rings set on a soft bun slathered in secret sauce (sriracha pickled aioli?) accompanied by dill pickles and generous heap of arugula and tomatoes. Served with either house made fries or a salad (no extra charge) the End of The World Burger would be a great way to go out.
