Recharge by Unplugging: Four Ways to Plan Your Perfect Summer Day on Clear Lake
April 21, 2025
Raise your hand if you need a dose of the “4 Rs” — relaxation, rejuvenation, refreshment, and recharging? Yeah, that’s what we figured.
Punxsutawney Phil warned us on Groundhog’s Day, but the past few months has us craving some summer.
There’s no better way to get your “4 R’s” (plus a little excitement and adventure thrown in too), than living the lake life.
And nobody does lake life better than Lake County (it’s literally our name, after all).
So if you’re looking to unplug from electronics and turn on the fun, then escape the hustle and bustle, and slide into the warm, welcoming waters of our namesake, Clear Lake.
There’s so much to do, you might not know where to start. We’ve got you covered. Here are four ways to plan your perfect Clear Lake summer playday!
Get a Front Row Seat to Fun
Hit the water and make some waves on a boat, jet ski, kayak, SUP — or all of the above! As far as we’re concerned there’s no better way to have fun on the lake, and we have decades of experience to back that claim up. You can bring your own equipment or rent some of ours at Disney Boat Rentals, a family company that has served summer thrill seekers since 1983. They’re a joy to visit with, but understand what you came here for, so they’ll make it fast and easy to get out of the store and out onto the water.
Meet the Locals
Lake County’s known for its wildlife, and we’re not just talking about the animals. We pride ourselves on the beauty of our natural wonders, and the hospitable nature of our people. So when you’re not striking a bass at The West’s Bass Fishing Capital, strike up a conversation at one of our restaurants, bars, and wineries. When you’re not people watching in downtown Kelseyville, go birdwatching with our world-renowned for a bevy of birds, including ospreys, herons, pelicans, and even bald eagles. Bring your binos and strike out on your own, or schedule a tour with Eyes of the Wild for a guided pontoon boat tour of Clear Lake. Plus, you may make a friend with a fellow traveler.
Play in the Park
With more than 20 acres packed with activities, Austin Park is a must for any Clear Lake play day. Naturally, you can enjoy the water, with canoeing, kayaking, and swimming spots available. But Austin Park also boasts playgrounds and picnic spots, as well as places to play softball, go biking, and even skate. You could pretty much spend your entire day in Austin Park and not even scratch the service. Good thing there are discounted annual memberships available for kayak and SUP rentals (though it’s only $25 for two hours otherwise).
Sleep Under the Stars
What better way to enjoy California’s clearest skies than sleeping under the stars? And there’s no better place to go camping than Clear Lake Campground. Established in the 1950s, this is the “vintage American camping vacation” you have dreamed about. Clear Lake Campground mixes rustic charm and creature comforts, with water, sewer, 30 amp electric, and limited WiFi. Not that you’ll need WiFi when you have the scenic beauty of Clear Lake surrounding you, and the awe-inspiring sights of the stars above you.
What better way to spend a summer’s day than playing in America’s oldest lake, nestled under California’s clearest skies?
Yeah, we can’t think of anything either.
After a summer day of play, you’ll probably be thinking: “Now this is the life.” Make that, the lake life.
So if you need a break (and frankly, who doesn’t?) then make a break for Clear Lake. It’s just a short drive away, but far, far away from worries. Recharge by unplugging, and plan your Clearly Different weekend (or week) at the lake, in Lake County.
We’ll see ya when ya get here!
