Hey stargazers! If you look skyward in the early morning hours starting tonight, 10/3, to Saturday, 10/5 you may well witness the rare Northern Lights phenomenon. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center has issued geomagnetic storm watches after the second-largest solar flare of the current cycle erupted on Tuesday.
The aurora borealis is expected to be visible across the northern U.S., with the best viewing opportunity coming late Friday night into the early hours of Saturday. While typically seen closer to the poles, sightings could stretch as far south as Southern California, bringing a rare opportunity for NorCal to see the vibrant display with the naked eye. Our clear Lake County night skies and low light pollution make for ideal viewing conditions of this heavenly occurrence, which was visible for the first time here this past May.

There’s nothing better than a good ‘ol fashioned pie eating contest—and the contestants at today’s Kelseyville Pear Festival did the event proud with their valiant efforts to be the first to down a 3 pound pear pie as the crowd cheered them on! It was a tight race from the start, but in the end sophomore Elisha Watkins from Kelseyville High School earned bragging rights until next year. You gotta admire the level of commitment from all of these contenders. Proceeds from the contest will be donated to the winning eater’s local non-profit of choice. 🍐🍐🍐

6 oz tequila
3 oz triple sec
2 tbl honey
Rosemary sprig
Optional 1/4 tsp. Cinnamon
