Join Us in Art Making with Natural Materials and Education!

October 8, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

Calling all lovers of the land, art, culture and community! Please join us for RECIPROCITY and co-create a sculpture about the plight of the Hitch for the EcoArts Sculpture Walk. In a rare opportunity to blend wisdom from the past with current issues, we will learn traditional bundling, stick bending and cordage making from culture bearers and artists Corine Pearce, Joe Weber and Luya Rivera.

We will gather at Trailside Park at 10:00am on Saturday Oct 7. Cultural artist Corine Pearce will share stories and Native wisdom about the practice of caring for the trees and the land. We will learn to tend to the sprouting oaks with sensitivity to their role in, and health of, the park’s ecosystem. Joe Weber, Luya Rivera and Corine Pearce will share about the plight of the Hitch and their importance to local Indigenous people and local ecosystems.

Later, we will move to the MAC studio to work together and bring our collaborative artwork to life. Art making continues on Sun Oct 8 at the MAC from 10-3:30pm. Experience the magical power of making meaning and joining together to make art in community.

No experience is required. People of all abilities, ages and backgrounds are welcome (kids under 15 with parents, guardians etc). Please bring clippers, loppers and gloves if you have them, plenty of water and a lunch.
