Summer’s the time when Lake County comes alive. People explore the lake, soak in the sun, and spend afternoons shopping and wine tasting. But if live music is your thing, there’s nothing better than Lake County. We’ve got live music every night of the week between Memorial Day and Labor Day. And by far, the best way to enjoy music is outdoors on a summer evening, when the day has cooled and the sky has turned purple, framing Mt. Konocti. Here are three of the best places to bring a picnic, spread out a blanket or lawn chair, and dance the night away.

Lakeport’s the county seat of Lake County, and for one hundred and fifty years has served as a great place to do some shopping, pick up some supplies, and, if you showed up in the 1890’s, catch a ferry to one of Lake County’s many resorts. Even today, it’s possible to head down to the docks, charter a boat, and cruise the shores of North America’s oldest lake. But before you do, be sure to spend some time downtown, browsing a few stores and grabbing a bite to eat.

Whether glamping, camping or parking an RV, Lake County the ideal camping destination with clean air, clear skies, and mild temps.

Middletown’s a town with a lot of history, and it’s still creating more. For a bit of the past, take a look at the hitching posts throughout town; people still ride their horses to town to pick up groceries. To enjoy what’s happening now, be sure to check out their local art scene, which pops up everywhere.

The Wine Auction is a powerhouse of an event that brings together the entire community. This charity event is like none other. Since its inception in 2000, it has donated over $2,300,000 to over fifty-seven local charities and nonprofits.

Located at the base of Mt. Konocti and in the fertile Big Valley, Kelseyville’s a small town known for its hospitality. Main Street’s filled with shops, wineries, and restaurants. But something unique happens on the last weekend of every September, the Pear Festival. Started in 1993, the first festival had 1,500 people attend. Now, over 10,000 people show up, and the entire Lake County community comes together to celebrate fall.

Just below the shoulders of overarching Mt. Konocti on the fertile soil of Big Valley, several small farms reside. And each spring and fall, they open up their gates for the Big Valley, Small Farms tour. It’s a chance to visit some unique farms and chat with local farmers. This fall, six farms will participate, each with something special to offer. It’s a perfect Saturday experience in Lake County.

Lake County’s newest experience is located amid the walnut orchards and vineyards in the heart of Big Valley, The Mercantile, Shannon Family of Wines’ newest addition. Friends of Boggs Mountain (FOBM) took the lead in collaboration with CAL FIRE in establishing a new trail system with a focus on multi-use.
